The King asks the boy to set on the journey for exploring and achieving his legend. Lost in the thoughts, the boy crosses the path with an old man, claiming to be the King of Salem. The gypsy tells the boy that destiny will surely present him with the treasure if he follows the path. The boy meets a gypsy from a near nearby village and discusses his dream with her. ![]() At first, he discards it as just another, but the dream appears multiple times. The shepherd, in his dream, witnesses a prophecy about a treasure near the faraway pyramids of Egypt. The Alchemist is a story about Santiago, the boy, a young shepherd from Andalusia, the Southern autonomous province of Spain. Let me break down my admiration for this book brick by brick. After all, till about three years ago, they had sold a whopping 65 million copies of this book! In fact, the whole series feels like one long book and at the conclusion of Sorcerers and Seers, I became immediately excited for books 12 and 13 that Chris Heimerdinger will have coming up soon. ![]() The book at hand that I just finished is book 11 of the series called Sorcerers and Seers and it is just as good as any of the previous 10. They are characters that are so well written that I feel a true attachment to them as if they were my neighbors across the street growing up. And yet, that’s not what’s happening here. These names are infused with stigma, names like schizophrenia or mental illness. In the West, there are names for having multiple selves or hearing voices. Saint Vincent, who we never hear from directly, comes toward the end, while Asụghara emerges in a moment of pain and vows to never let Ada experience that pain again. As the novel continues and time passes, we are introduced to Ada along with her other selves: Asụghara and Saint Vincent. They call her ‘the Ada’ and they are called ‘We.’ Even before we meet Ada, we meet them and they become part of Ada’s self.
